Benefits of a Hybrid Heat Pump

A Hybrid Heat Pump gives you the best of both worlds. It’s a low carbon heating system combining an electric heat pump with a gas boiler, providing you with reduced emissions without losing the reliable comfort you expect from your gas boiler.

Dependable in Cold Weather

Gas automatically supports the heat pump during cold temperatures — no loss of comfort.

Low Carbon Heating

Uses the heat pump when it’s most efficient to do so, significantly reducing emissions.

Automatic & Hassle Free

The system automatically switches to the most cost-effective energy source, so you don’t have to.

Flexible & Future Ready

Reduces reliance on a single energy source and it is compatible with future green gas solutions.

Why this programme is being delivered

Supporting Low-Carbon Home Heating Across Northern Ireland.

Northern Ireland must transition towards lower-carbon home heating to meet our regional climate objectives.

While switching from oil to natural gas can reduce home carbon emissions by up to 50%, the gas industry is now exploring how we can reduce emissions even further by combining biomethane ready gas boilers with highly efficient heat pumps.

A Hybrid Heat Pump gives you the best of both worlds. It’s a low carbon heating system combining an electric heat pump with a gas boiler, providing you with reduced emissions without losing the reliable comfort you expect from your gas boiler.

This programme supports selected homeowners across Northern Ireland with financial support to upgrade their oil or gas boiler to a hybrid heat pump.
